State Standards
Effective February 19, 2002, the state of New Jersey implemented statewide rules, NJAC 8:27, known as Body Art Procedures, Chapter VIII, State Sanitary Code. This chapter establishes standards for persons engaged in the business of tattooing, permanent cosmetics and body piercing in order to protect the public's health. This regulation provides procedures for:
  • Client record keeping
  • Disinfection standards
  • Facility layout
  • Hand washing
  • Lighting
  • Medical waste disposal
  • Sanitation
  • Sterilization
  • Training requirements
County Department
This department conducts unannounced inspections of each regulated facility.
