Mobile Food Operations

About
The Mobile Food Operation program is designed to assist with the layout of the mobile food operation, the equipment needed and the food preparation processes required to be able to serve safe food products to the community. For other food safety topics, go to the Food Safety Program.

Mobile food vendors are also subject to the Chapter XXIV codes (PDF). Guidelines to operating a mobile food establishment (PDF) can be downloaded also.

Provide knowledgeable assistance in the area of food safety, regulatory requirements, as well as the design of the mobile food operation.

  • Mobile food operation license fee - $35
How to Become an Approved Mobile Food Vendor in Cape May County
  1. You need to own an inspected retail food establishment or have an agreement with an inspected retail food establishment for you to use their facility for all food storage, food preparation, ware washing, etc. A home kitchen is not an approved establishment. Home preparation or storage of food is not permitted by theNew Jersey State Sanitary Code Chapter 24 (NJAC 8:24) Sanitation in Retail Food Establishments (PDF).
  2. You must complete an annual retail food facility permit application (PDF).
To qualify as a Mobile Food vendor in Cape May County, you:
  • Must have a hand wash sink.
  • Must be self-contained (i.e., trailer, van, truck.).
All other retail food vendors who plan on selling or giving away food at temporary locations are listed as temporary food establishments.
