Laboratories

The Cape May County Health Department Division of Laboratories provides testing and support for the various programs provided by the Health Department, particularly the Nursing and Environmental Divisions.

The Clinical Laboratory is licensed through the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services to conduct testing in the specialties of:
  • Bacteriology
  • Chemistry
  • Diagnostic immunology
  • Hematology
  • Toxicology
  • Urinalysis
The laboratory is Clinical Laboratory Improvement Adjustments-certified and follows the quality control and proficiency programs required for this CLIA certification.

The Water Quality Laboratory is certified through the New Jersey State Department of Environmental Protection, Office of Quality Assurance. The laboratory conducts testing on:
  • Drinking water
  • Surface water
  • Waste water

The laboratory performs testing for the:
  • CCMP Beach program, which monitors the bathing waters during the summer
  • CEHA environmental monitoring program and Sewage Treatment Plant monitoring
  • PWTA program, which tests private well water ,the public non-community water supply program
Testing is available at a fee to homeowners for their home wells. Surveys are performed free in areas where contamination has been documented.
