Mosquitoes: The Vector (Carrier)

Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on the blood of a bird that is infected with the virus. The virus circulates in the mosquito’s blood before reaching the mosquito’s salivary glands. Once the virus reaches the mosquito’s salivary glands, the mosquito becomes capable of passing the virus to people and animals by biting them. This process can take from 10 days to 2 weeks.
