Horses: Incidental Infection (Dead End Carriers)

Horses are likely to become infected with West Nile Virus from the bite of an infected mosquito. Therefore, horses should be protected from mosquito bites as much as possible. There is no reason to destroy a horse just because it has a West Nile Virus infection. Horses infected with the virus can not pass the disease to mosquitoes.
