Green Creek Tidal Estuary Sustainability Project

The Cape May County Planning Department has received a Grant from the Department of Interior, National Fish and Wildlife Federation under their program entitled Building Ecological Solutions to Coastal Community Hazards.  Our partnership includes: the National Wildlife Federation, Sustainable Jersey, NJ Sea Grant/Stevens Institute of Technology, Partnership for Delaware Estuary, the Haskins Shellfish Laboratory, the Cape May County Mosquito Department, the Township of Middle, Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, and of course you, our residents, businesses, visitors and everyone interested in the long term health and sustainability of the Green Creek Tidal Estuary.

The area of study is the Green Creek watershed, extending along the Delaware Bay from Norbury’s Landing Road (CR 642) to the Haskins Shellfish Laboratory and inland along the Route 47 corridor.  The purpose of this grant study is to collect information and to develop solutions to preserve and protect this area from future damage due to coastal storms, including beach erosion  and deterioration of the fragile internal ecosystem.  We hope to utilize the results of this design study to put forward identified solutions into the permitting and design development stage, where we hope to find additional funding for implementing the best set of measures to insure a healthy future for this watershed.
