The single most important thing you can do as a responsible pet owner is have your pet spayed or neutered.

Programs
There are several programs available in Cape May County through the state, the county or your municipality. Call the shelter for more information.

Through the state or county animal population control programs you may be eligible to have your pet spayed or neutered for $20 if you adopted your pet from:
  • A municipal, county or regional pound
  • A non-profit New Jersey animal adoption referral agency
  • An eligible, licensed New Jersey shelter
  • New Jersey holding or impoundment facility that contracts with New Jersey municipalities
Through the state or county animal population control programs you are eligible to spay or neuter your dog or cat for $10 if you receive any of the following:
  • Food stamps
  • General public assistance
  • Lifeline utility credit
  • Medicaid
  • Pharmaceutical assistance to aged and disabled
  • Rental assistance aid to families with dependent children
  • Supplemental security income
  • Tenants lifeline assistance
Call any participating veterinary hospital or the shelter for additional program details. The state offer of discounted services is subject to availability of funds which are released quarterly (January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1) and deplete quickly. When depleted, county funds become available.
