County Adjuster

Responsibilities
The County Adjuster's Office determines the legal settlement and support for county residents admitted to New Jersey psychiatric hospitals.

The Adjuster's Office schedules court hearings on these matters and is responsible to provide legal representation for patients at civil commitment hearings. Court ordered or voluntary payments are collected from these individuals if they are found with the ability to pay.

Other duties of the Adjuster include the performance of mental health searches for firearms applicants for law enforcement agencies and the filing and maintenance of institutional liens on behalf of the county.

The Adjuster prepares and disburses a portion of the county budget for the county share of maintenance for the mentally ill, medical, dental, and pharmaceutical care for Cape May County Correctional Center inmates and aid to local volunteer rescue squads.
