Recreational Water Illnesss

  1. 1.What are recreational water illnesses (RWIs)?

    Recreational water illnesses are sicknesses spread by swallowing, breathing or having contact with contaminated water from swimming pools, spas, lakes, rivers and oceans. The most commonly reported RWI is diarrhea.

  2. How do you prevent RWIs?

    Do not swim if you or your child has diarrhea. It is important to take your children on frequent bathroom breaks and check diapers. Change any diaper in the bathroom, not poolside, and shower before swimming in the pool.
