Cape May County's allure, since first incorporated in 1692, was agriculture and fishing. And while the landscape has changed dramatically, people continue to be drawn to the Jersey Cape for miles of white sandy beaches, acres of farmland and open space, and a special blend of both that create a quality of life not found anywhere else.

Wineries, Breweries and Distilleries
From vine to wine, the Jersey Cape has earned bragging rights for some of the best wines this side of the Napa Valley. We are the Garden State and over the past decade we have emerged as the perfect place to grow grapes. Because of our climate, mixed with gentle breezes from the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean and sandy soil, local vineyards are growing a variety of grapes resulting in award winning wines sold at the six operating wineries in Cape May County. Wine educators conduct tours and tastings at the wineries and are highly recommended for those with a thirst to learn about wines and wine production. You will also find great wines and sangria using locally grown fruits such as blueberry, pumpkin and apple.
The Cape May Brewing Company has expanded its operation at the Cape May County Airport, and is a hit among locals and visitors alike. Fresh brews using local produce can be found on tap seasonally and tours and tastings are available. New to the Jersey Cape are distilleries that use local products for making vodka and other liquors.

Commercial Fishing
Commercial and recreational fishing boats produce fresh seafood daily and the "catch of the day" is often found on menus in restaurants, not only along the Jersey Cape, but all over the eastern seaboard.
Dockside dining offers fresh seafood right off the boats and if you're lucky, and the boats are in, you can catch a glimpse of the fleet of commercial boats offloading their catch. Commercial fishing is a mainstay of our economy, and a way of life for generations of families. Wharf tours are available that will explain the process from bringing in the fish to the processing and canning.
The ports of Cape May and Wildwood are among the top producing commercial fishing ports in the country. Local oysters, such as Cape May Salts, are being harvested along the Delaware Bay and have become a favorite among seafood lovers.
