Staying Fit at the Shore in Cape May County

Posted on January 19, 2016 at 8:53 AM by Rachael Cox

Strolling down the Boardwalk at Cape May can be a culinary minefield. It’s incredibly hard to watch your weight when restaurants on the boardwalk are loaded with ice cream, pizza, fries, and fudge on their menus. But no worries! With a determined mind, anyone can find ways to stay fit during their New Jersey beach vacation. So put down that cheesecake and step outside for fresh air, here are some ways to stay fit on a trip to Cape May County.

1. Walk down the two-mile long Wildwood Boardwalk for a guilt-free, scenic tour. Guests that walk back to their original starting location will complete a four-mile walk (good enough to reward yourself with a cake after dinner). Guests can also opt to rent a bicycle and ride down the designated bike lane along the boardwalk. Cape May is known for being one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the state, so take advantage of some its safe, scenic routes through parks or neighborhoods.

2. For a spiritual and challenging workout, yoga and pilates courses are offered directly at the beach. Locations like Stone Harbor, Cape May, Wildwood Crest, and Seven Mile Beach are reliably known for having scheduled workout courses every week. Guests are advised to do some research to find the most convenience and budget-friendly classes (some are free). During the lessons, guests can listen to the waves crash and get a tan while burning calories.

3. Jersey Cape sports numerous golf courses that are easy to join. Whether you’re an amateur or seasoned golfer, multiple golf courses can accommodate your needs by supplying gear and training. After playing 9-holes, the average person will burn up to 720 calories. However, it’s suggested to avoid riding on the golf carts and use your legs to get to the next hole.

4. Several recreational departments are open to the public. Tennis courts, outdoor tracks, and soccer fields are readily available for guests to use and indulge in their favorite sports. Guests can also look for available lessons like surfing or paddleboarding that are offered at the beach. Tai Chi, Zumba and other workout lessons are also available to enroll on the shores of Cape May.
