As a college student, it's always exciting when you finish your spring semester and you look forward to having the next three months off for the summer. However, if you are a college student, you are most likely spending a good portion of your summer working to earn as much money as possible before the fall semester starts. This being the case, you don't want to spend your free time cooped up in your house all day. If you'll be in the Cape May County area for the summer, you have plenty of fun activities to look forward to in your free time.
A great perk about the Jersey Cape is it's close proximity to the ocean. If you're just looking to relax, grab your beach supplies and spend some down time lying on the beach in the sun. If that gets boring there are plenty of fun ways to take advantage of being near the water. Surfing is always a good way to spend your free time, and it's great exercise. Ocean City, Strathmere, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Cape May all have beaches specifically for surfing so you don't have to worry about people freely swimming in the water. If surfing doesn't interest you, there are many other water activities you should try out such as jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing.
Everyone who resides in the Jersey Cape during the summer knows that parking can be a nightmare in the beach towns. An effective way of getting around without your car is biking or long boarding. This is a great way to avoid the gridlock traffic and the scarce parking. Some of the beach towns even have their own bike paths as well, which helps riders avoid the busy roads altogether.
No free time during the day? There is plenty of nightlife fun to be had in the area as well. Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood and Cape May all have their fair share of bars to check out. Ocean Drive, Dead Dog Saloon and Shenanigans are very popular bars in Sea Isle City that attract a large crowd. Avalon is well known for the Princeton Bar and Grill, which always has a night DJ during the summer. In Stone Harbor you have the Watering Hull, which is open till at least 2 AM every night. Wildwood has a few bars to check out, such as Mulligan's Sports Bar and Grill, Dog Tooth Bar and Grill, and Cattle 'n Clover which is an Irish themed bar. In Cape May, you definitely want to check out Cabanas Beach Bar and Grill or the Rusty Nail, which has a fire pit and a deck.
Spending the summer in the Jersey Cape as a young adult is certainly not a dull experience. These are only some of the fun ways to spend your free time in the summer, and make sure to spend the time wisely because the summer will be over before you know it.
