[ARCHIVED] Fare Free Transportation Partners with CMC Technical School Adult Education to Provide CDL Training

Under a new program added to the current County Technical Adult Education offerings, Cape May County residents are now eligible to apply for training for a CDL license through a Fare Free Internship Program.

Qualified students will receive classroom and practical instructions which will culminate in earning a New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicle standard CDL Class B, with passenger endorsement driver’s license. Successful candidates will be offered a paid part-time summer job with the Cape May County Fare Free Transportation Department, with the potential for full-time employment.

Freeholder E. Marie Hayes, who oversees Fare Free Transportation, said, “There is a huge need for qualified Fare Free drivers, but they must possess a valid New Jersey CDL license. This program will provide the classroom and practical instructions for county residents to get the required CDL Class B with passenger endorsement license and will open new job opportunities and fill the need for drivers at Fare Free.”

“The program is open to Cape May County residents who are over 21 years and hold a valid New Jersey driver’s license. Candidates must had held a driver’s license for 3 or more years to qualify for the program”, Hayes added.

Other requirements for entry into the program include:

  • Pass a physical and drug test
  • Pass a background search
  • Have no criminal history or DUI
  • Submit to fingerprinting

The CDL Instructional classes will be held at the Cape May County Technical School. The deadline to apply for this program is February 15, 2018. Applications are available at the Cape May County Technical School. For more information call the Adult Education office at 609 380-0240.
