[ARCHIVED] Rutgers Cooperative Extension of CMC Offers Workshop on Growing Vegetables in Small Spaces

Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, Agriculture and Natural Resources program will hold a workshop on Growing Vegetables in Small Spaces on Thursday, April 12, 2018. The workshop, part of the new series "Garden & Grow,” will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 355 Courthouse - South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.

The presenter will be Belinda Chester, Rutgers Master Gardener Coordinator for Atlantic County. Participants will learn how to garden in containers and raised beds, methods for disease and pest control, and how to start your own plants from seeds. Also, there will be a hands-on seed planting activity and everyone will take home the seeds they plant.

Jen Sawyer, Rutgers Master Gardener Coordinator for Cape May County, said, “The objective of this workshop is to demonstrate that you don’t need acres to grow fresh produce at home. Some popular vegetables like tomatoes, zucchini, and peppers can be grown in a limited space, in containers, raised beds, and even on balconies or patios.”

The goal of the Garden & Grow 2018 workshop series is to teach locals how to improve or expand their home gardens in new ways. Future topics include organic lawn care, the principles of organic growing, and, back by popular demand, raising chickens in your backyard.

This is a beginner class, therefore, no experience is needed. The cost for this workshop is $25 and includes dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6 p.m. Register at http://RU-CMC-ANR.eventbrite.com by April 6, 2018.
