Biography
Jeff Pierson is a lifelong resident of Cape May County and was appointed to fill the vacant seat of then Freeholder Kristine Gabor’s on October 25, 2016. Prior to becoming Commissioner, he served as an Upper Township Committeeman from January 6, 2015, until October 24, 2016. As a Committeeman he was responsible for Public Safety, EMS Division, Court System, Animal Control and participated on numerous committees and organizations within the township. He also was the Veterans Interment Officer for the Cape May County Veterans Bureau.
Commissioner Pierson’s professional background is serving in the United States Army and New Jersey Army National Guard for 42 years retiring as a Brigadier General; six years as Undersheriff Correctional Division, Cape May County Sheriff’s Office; and within State Government in several positions within the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Commissioner Pierson has a bachelor’s degree in public Administration from Roger Williams University, a master’s degree, and certificate in administrative science, as well as a doctorate in Humane Letters from Fairleigh Dickenson University. He attended the Army Command & General Staff College and the Army War College, as well as numerous other military and civilian schools.
Commissioner Pierson has numerous military and civilian decorations, awards, letters of appreciation and letters of commendation. He resides in Marmora with his wife Sandy where he is a member of the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, Past Master of Cannon Lodge #104 Free & Accepted Masons, and Past President of the Ocean City-Upper Township (Noon) Rotary Club. He has three children Christine, Jennifer and Jeff, Jr. are all married, live within Upper Township, and have blessed him with 13 beautiful grandchildren.
